It's that time of year again, time to start working in the yard and garden. Be extremely cautious about being sure your pets stay out of the fertilizers, mulches, landscaping rocks, and especially metal lawn edging. Some household and bedding plants are poisonous to dogs, including lilies, larkspur, green tomatoes, rhubarb, and virginia creeper.

As it gets warmer outside be careful about leaving your pets outdoors or in your vehicles.  Be certain that they have shade and an adequate supply of cool clean water available at all times. The temperatures in an automobile can reach deadly high temperatures in a very short amount of time.  Some days it's better to leave your friend at the comfort of their home then risk a dangerously hot vehicle.

Sand colic is a potentially lethal obstruction that can occur in a horses colon is they ingest too much sand or dirt.  It is one of the most common causes of colic signs and diarrhea in horses.  We recommend feeding your horse in a feeder off the ground and place mats under the feeder to prevent additional sand ingestion. Also, feed your horse a psyllium product for one full week every month.
